Lac Ste. Anne County is seeking a qualified Deputy Fire Chief / Fire Smart Coordinator to join our growing team.
Reporting to the County Fire Chief the Deputy Fire Chief / Fire Smart Coordinator is responsible for the direct management of Lac Ste. Anne County's Fire Services logistical operations, training, management and the Fire Smart Program.

Requirements
the responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to):
- Administration and Leadership of County Fire Services team members, training, logistical operations and mandates.
- Attend emergency incident scenes when required.
- Work with industry throughout the County to coordinate firefighting, utilizing resources and trained personnel.
- Represent the Department in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of Lac Ste. Anne County and in accordance with the County's Level of Service Policy and all Standard Operating Procedures.
- Develop and deliver annual training plans and assist Station Officers in the facilitation and delivery of programs in the certification of Firefighters. Implement Public Education programs and respond to public requests for information and/or presentations.
- Hold appointment as a Fire Guardian under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act.
- Undertake appraisals and evaluation of Fire Services Personnel.
- Maintain knowledge of firefighting techniques and emergency services operations.
- Act as back up to the County Fire Chief. Lead, plan, coordinate and implement FireSmart initiatives.
- Prepare annual plans, and budgets, with recommendations for both long and short term goals and strategic direction regarding facilities, apparatus and manpower. Prepare Fire Services agenda items for Council meetings.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of documented Fire Officer experience with a municipality.
- Fire related training including but not limited to:
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level 1 and 2 - Structural Firefighter.
- NFPA 1002 Driver - Operator.
- NFPA 1021 Level 2 Officer Training or equivalent Fire Ground Command Training.
- NFPA 1041 Level 1 or 2 (preferred) - Fire Services Instructor.
- Basic Emergency Management.
- Previous experience and/or certification in Wildland Fire Training, Incident Safety, Fire Service Instruction.
- A Fire Service Administration Degree would be considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of the National Fire Code, National Building Code, and all legislation applicable to the delivery of Fire Services in Alberta.
- Always possess a valid Alberta Driver’s License during employment with Lac Ste. Anne County.
- Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient with MS Office and other industry specific software such as Fire Pro 2.
- Well developed interpersonal and public speaking skills.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Strong initiative and leadership qualities.
Term: This is a permanent full-time position working 40 hours per week. The position requires flexibility of hours relating to incidents and fire related emergencies.
Salary: $79,433.00 to $94,437.00 annually
