Is this assessment mandatory?
No, requesting a site assessment is completely voluntary and at the discretion of the submitter. It is an opportunity for you to partner with Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services to enhance the safety and security of your family and livelihood.
Who can request a site assessment?
Presently, property owners who manage farming operations within the borders of Lac Ste. Anne County are eligible to request free site assessments via the Farm FireSmart program.
What exactly does a Farm FireSmart Assessment involve?
A qualified assessor (typically from Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services) will meet you at your property to:
- Identify high-risk areas specific to your farm (e.g., fuel storage, equipment sheds, grain bins, and homes).
- Evaluate vegetation and combustible materials in the immediate vicinity of your assets.
- Discuss current practices for fire safety, response, and emergency planning (especially for livestock).
The assessor will then provide a comprehensive, prioritized list of recommendations and available resources to mitigate identified risks.
How long does a site assessment take?
The duration will depend on the size and complexity of your operation, but most on-site assessments take approximately 1 to 2 hours.
Is there a cost for the assessment?
No. Lac Ste. Anne County provides Farm FireSmart site assessments free of charge as a valuable service to the agricultural community.
Will you share my site assessment details?
Absolutely not. The information gathered during your Farm FireSmart Assessment is confidential and will only be used internally by Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services to provide you with recommendations and available support. This program is for education and mitigation only and is not tied to any regulatory enforcement, compliance, or insurance action.
Do I have to implement the recommendations?
The recommendations provided are advisory only. They are professional suggestions to increase the fire resiliency of your operation. While we strongly encourage you to implement the recommended measures to protect your assets, there is no obligation to complete any of the suggested work.
